Jewelry Photography and Video

Is Flash a tool of the past? Not really, but for some, yes. CSS is easier to design with, text is better for SEO, and other scripting languages are available in wonderful snippets through many open source projects.

So...what do you do if you want to have a little video? Work with what you have got.

Ultimately, when working with jewelry and animation, the most important thing you have available is your image. Flash and other programs are only tools that will allow you to make something move. While this is a huge understatement, in the case of showcasing photography, so many things can be done without learning HOW to make Flash move things the way you want.

If this is confusing, I offer an analogy: I could clear the snow off my walkway using a shovel, or I could use a snowblower and do the same.

Looking at my bottom lines, it doesn't matter how I do it, what I want is to not have wet feet when I walk outside, or old ladies (and men) slipping. In the end of this hypothetical situation I went with my trusty shovel because I need it done and I know I can do it.

The same bottom lines apply to EVERYTHING in producing an image, whether a still one or moving. It is not HOW you do it, more importantly, it is WHAT you do.

This weeks webcast on animation, is a great example of the "what not how" idea that is so important. There are no boundaries to producing successful work if you know what you want and have SOME tool to work with.

A technically blessed jewelry and product photographer with an ability to "measure 3 times and cut once", might not need Photoshop to bring his or her vision to fruition. If you are a Photoshop composing junkie with a taste for perfectly hand painted shadows, Photoshop, might be what you need to bring that same vision to life.

Short story long: there are SO few obstacles that will prevent you from producing the work you want. Knowing what you want, and working with intent, will enable you to produce what you want using almost anything.

In this case, this webcast is a great example of a way for someone with an image to create a beautiful "moving image", really quickly and successfully.

Enjoy watching, enjoy learning, and enjoy doing.

Success Stories
Marketing and photography studio service providers aim to portray there brand and take their business in the direction that follows that images and brand. "Is it a national or regional ad? I want only national", "We are a chop shop", "Ehh...contracts?", "OK, now lets lay out our 2010 goals". These are made up conversation snippets. Where do you land? Jewelry Photography Set Map
ImagingPrep Studios is proud to be publishing the first "Set Map". What is a set map? A set map is another tool we have developed and will be regularly publishing over the next 2 months that will be an additional guidance and resource tool for our jewelry photography demo video and training library. We think that information delivered through example and audible instruction is paramount to affective learning. After watching and hearing, the set maps is another tool to help our members develop there studios and techniques for photographing jewelry. A comprehensive set, lighting, and camera equipment list are included. Jewelry styling and propping are noted and more useful information comes included as well. In June 2008, all members will have access to the complete library of studio guides.More than anything, we want you as a photographer to "see" what kind of tool you and your studio are and can be. Success and accomplishing goals is possible at any level. Learning and doing are the most important part, and making educated and intentional images is our goal. Enjoy.
